Filling the streets of London with Irish revellers and celebrations of all kinds, the St Patricks Day festival sees the city come to life with green, orange and white in honour of the patron Saint of Ireland.

Trafalgar Square is the host of the main festival event, but the St Patricks Day parade will circle the city with its floats, live music, street performance and carnival style celebrations, ensuring that the crowds have plenty to see.

The main stage will be home to both tradtional and more modern style Irish music for the St Patricks Day festival 2008, with all kinds of music and performers all the way from Ireland entertaining the revellers all day long.

Dance, music and craft workshops will be held around Leicester Square so that kids and family can get their hands on some real Irish traditions, and those who might be thinking of their stomachs can visit the Irish food stalls in Covent Garden, where they can sample delicious traditional Irish cuisines.

St Patricks Day Food Market

Trafalgar Square also plays host to Roisin Murphy ex singer from the band Moloko. Now a successful solo artist, she will be playing songs from her most recent top 20 album Overpowered. She will be joined on the stage for the St Patricks Day festival by great rock and roller Joe Brown, acclaimed songwriter Ann Scott, Irish chart topping band Aslan, dance troupe the Celtic Masters and the singing group The 12 Irish Tenors.

An enormous ceili is also set to take place in Leicester Square where experienced and inexperienced dancers will be able to join in a lively and fun afternoon of traditional Irish ceili dancing, Riverdance style. In the childrens area, entertainers and an arty crafts area mean kids can get involved painting t-shirts and making lucky clovers and hand prints.

There are plenty of other events taking place to celebrate St Patricks Day in London, including the Irish Film Festival at the Barbican, London Irish Centre and the Tricycle Cinema and the Irish food market at Covent Garden. Live Irish music will also be performed by the London Irish Symphnoy and there are plenty of Irish pubs that will be celebrating their patron saint's day, including the biggest of them all, Waxy O'Connors.
