This year’s St Patricks Day London parade promises to be one of the biggest ever, with a host of events taking place. Join the crowds on Sunday 16th March 2008 and enjoy the craic in festive Irish style.
Join the St Patricks Day London paradeThe streets of London will be transformed into a huge St Patricks Day party including a full parade of floats, marching bands, dancers and more. Spectators can enjoy live music and performances along the parade route, which passes Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street and Trafalgar Square.
London landmarksThe St Patricks Day parade starts from Park Lane and ends at Whitehall Place, wandering through areas like Piccadilly Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall East and Trafalgar Square. Stake out a spot near your favourite London landmark, or follow the parade around for a great view of London.
Represent IrelandFor 2008 the St Patricks Day London parade will be thoroughly Irish as the organisers are aiming to have all 32 counties represented. As Londoners with Irish backgrounds will no doubt want to represent their home counties, others with no previous connection with Ireland are also invited to join in the fun. If you would like to register to walk with an Irish county in the parade, send your name, email or postal address to stpatricks.day@london.gov.uk by 10th March 2008.
Live entertainment in LondonIn 2007 London and Dublin joined forces to bring the best entertainment to both capitals. For the London St Patricks Day parade this year music will come live to crowds in London from the ex Moloko singer Roisin Murphy. Playing brand new material from her top 20 album, Overpowered she wil be joined by some other great live musicians. Rock and roller Joe Brown will be whipping up a storm as he plays live, Luka Bloom will be playing his unique brand of electro acoustic pop, Ann Scott will delight the crowds with her unusual melodies, the pop group Aslan will be winning over English hearts with their Irish music. Thousands are sure to watch the musicians and performers strut their stuff at one of the biggest events on the London calendar.
St Patricks Day FestivalA complete festival will be taking place throughout the day with a line up of performances, and activities in central London. A main stage at Trafalgar Square will be home to traditional and modern Irish entertainment, with dance and music and crafts creating a lively atmosphere. There will also be the largest Irish travel exhibition in Britain on show, to tempt you into travelling to the emerald isle itself. Head to Covent Garden the weekend of St Patricks Day for an Irish food market and music, and Leicester Squre hosts a giant Ceili where everyone can have a go at this energetic traditional Irish dance.
