St Pauls Cathedral Christmas Lights

Join an all star cast of musical talent for the St Pauls Cathedral Christmas lights switching on ceremony, which takes place at exactly the same time as the Oxford Street and Regent Street lights on events.

The big switch on
For the first time, the 2009 St Pauls Cathedral Christmas lights switch on is being coordinated with the switching on ceremonies of Oxford Street and Regent Street, in a big celebration to start the festive season and mark the world premiere of the new Disney film, A Christmas Carol. The premiere of the new Disney 3D animation film based on the classic story by Charles Dickens takes place in Leicester Square, with free public events being held across the West End.

Music at St Pauls
The crowds attending the St Pauls Cathedral Christmas lights switch on will be joined by one of the stars of the Disney film, Bob Hoskins, who is throwing the switch to illuminate the beautiful historic cathedral. At the same time, other Hollywood stars such as Jim Carrey and Colin Firth will be lighting up Oxford Street and Regent Street before heading to Leicester Square for the world premiere of the festive film.

Live music
Joining Bob Hoskins at St Pauls Cathedral are acclaimed opera singer Andrea Bocelli, 1980s pop icons Spandau Ballet, up and coming starlet Little Boots and Britain's Got Talent star Faryl Smith. Other musicians taking part in the St Pauls Cathedral Christmas lights switching on celebrations include indie pop group Scouting for Girls and the St Pauls Cathedral Choir.

World record attempt
The audience can also take part in all the singing with the Christmas carol world record attempt, in a mass sing along which aims to spread Christmas cheer throughout the West End. Click on the link below for further information.

The St Pauls Cathedral Christmas lights switching on event runs from 5pm - 6.30pm, Tuesday 3rd November 2009. The event is free to attend.
