A giant in 20th century cinema is celebrated with a series of films by Stanley Kubrick at BFI Southbank. Responsible for some of the most iconic, influential, and often nightmarish works in modern filmmaking, the name Kubrick became a byword for controversy for many, and now some of his most celebrated films can be seen on the big screen again.

Stanley Kubrick at BFI Southbank
Running throughout February and March 2009, the Stanley Kubrick at BFI Southbank season starts with Barry Lyndon, an adaptation of Thackeray's novel which charts the progress of an eighteenth century Irish rogue as he fights and charms his way across Europe. Another period piece certain to draw in the crowds is the all time classic Spartacus, the epic Roman tale starring Kirk Douglas in a career defining role.

A Clockwork Orange
One of Kubrick most famous - and controversial - films, A Clockwork Orange will be screened from 1st March - 24th March 2009 as part of the Stanley Kubrick at BFI Southbank film season. Adapted from the Antony Burgess novel of the same name, A Clockwork Orange is a dystopian vision of a near-future, brutal London, and was ultimately withdrawn from the UK by Kubrick himself over fears that the film was inspiring copycat acts of violence.

Masterpieces
Other films in the Stanely Kubrick season include Full Metal Jacket, Lolita, 2001 A Space Odyssey and The Shining. For a full timetable of screenings and information on how to book a seat, click on the link below.
