For one day only this summer, you can head three floors underground and see some cutting edge street art at the Royal Albert Hall. The free Load exhibition at the famous live performance venue celebrates the Royal Albert Hall's 138 year history and gives you a rare chance to head backstage and visit an area usually reserved for musicians, performers and behind the scenes staff.

Street art at Royal Albert Hall
Open to the public on Monday 22nd June 2009, the Load exhibition of street art at Royal Albert Hall incorporates graffiti and urban art to depict the story of the venue from 1871 to the present day. With a street art theme throughout the show, the exhibition should appeal to fans of graffiti artist as well as culture vultures who want to sample some of the back stage magic of the Royal Albert Hall's Loading Bay for themselves.

The Loading Bay
Displaying 10ft high murals over a 1,125 square metre space, the exhibition inspired by street art at Royal Albert Hall includes large scale portraits of some of the legendary musicians who have performed on stage at the famous venue. Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra, Pavarotti and The Killers are all represented, as well as the iconic master of the electric guitar, Jimi Hendrix.

Social history
Organised in partnership with Daydream Network, the one day Load exhibition at the Royal Albert Hall uses the works on display to highlight some of the key moments in the hall's history. Events such as Winston Churchill's television broadcast with Lord Montgomer, Mohammed Ali's knock out boxing rounds are all covered, right back to the dawn of electric lighting and suffragette campaigners.

Graffer and tagger techniques
A third space within the Load street art exhibition will be exclusively given over to examining the street art techniques which can be seen throughout the show. From stencilling, freehand techniques and photorealism, this area aims to give a crash course in recognising the best in urban art.

The Load exhibition of street art at Royal Albert Hall is open to the public from 12pm - 9pm, Monday 22nd June 2009. Admission is free.
