An exhibition of Street Photography at Museum of London takes place during 2011 as the Museum opens up its archives from 1860 to the present day. Taking a look at the nature of street photography exclusively in London, this exhibition charts the history of the genre and sheds light on the changing nature of the city and its people over the years.

Street Photography at Museum of London
Around 200 different photos are included in the Street Photography exhibition, including many pieces by well known and well loved photographers. From the likes of John Thompson, Henry Grant and Roger Mayne to more contemporary images, the Museum of London invites you to look at the social and cultural changes made evident by the captuting of street snapshots over the years.

Visual documents
Giving visitors unprecedented access to their collection of street photography at Museum of London, everyone who attends the photo show will no doubt be struck by the evolving nature of London over the years. Creating a fascinating series of visual documents, all the photos included in the exhibition contain a factor of chance, as with all street photography, which makes them all the more appealing.

Capturing the city
Whether the images on display show a fleeting expression, a brief encounter or an unsual juxtaposition, all the photos capture the essence of London as well as telling the story of the street. By focusing exclusively on London, Street Photography at Museum of London tells the individual stories of the people in front of the camera, as well as those taking the shot. Looking at the motives of the photographers as well, the exhibition examines the energy and dynamism of their subjects along with their social and cultural location.

The exhibition of Street Photography at Museum of London takes place from 10am - 6pm, Friday 18th February - Sunday 4th September 2011. Entrance is free.
