Aiming to be put a novel spin on the traditional fun run, the Sumo Run London charity event will be taking place in Battersea Park.

Raising money for Gemin-i, the charity that aims to empower communities in developing countries through ICT and communication technology, the 5km Sumo Run London event see one of the capital's green parks taken over by runners dressed up in inflatable Sumo wrestler suits. With its winning combination of outdoors exercise for a charitable cause and the added comedy value of taking part alongside similarly besuited and rounded runners, the Sumo Run might be one of the best ways to get that all important feel good factor for the summer of 2012.

Get suited up
Rental of the inflatable suits for Sumo Run London event at Battersea Park is included in the registration fee, and if you do take part, you might end up helping to break a Guinness World Record as well as raising money for charity. The Sumo Run will be attempting to break the world record for the largest gathering of inflated runners, so even if you're not taking part you can still turn up at Battersea Park and take in the spectacle of hundreds of runners bouncing about in their puffed up Sumo suits.

All abilities welcome
Open to all abilities from the novice runner to the sports fanatic, the Sumo fun run through Battersea Park is a fairly managable five kilometres, and there'll be plenty of people taking it easy and walking at least part of the way as the suits can get rather toasty. You should aim to raise at least £250 in sponsorship, so if you do want to take part, start enlisting the help of friends, family and workmates now.
