Surreal Film House at Barbican
Bringing a series of films from directors such as Salvador Dali, Jean Cocteau, Tim Burton, David Lynch and Guillermo del Toro, this film season promises to deliver some of the best and most surreal film of all time, from the early days to current releases. Dive into the mix with screenings from both sides of the Atlantic, a Terry Gilliam Directorspective, live music events, and more.
Terry Gilliam
Long seen as the master of Surrealist cinema, the animator and Monty Python star has created some amazingly weird pieces of film over the years, and best known is Brazil. See this classic film on the big screen, along with the Adventures of Baron Muchausen, Fear and Loating in Las Vegas and the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus as part of the Surreal Film House at Barbican for an overview of his work.
Surrealist history
To accompany the Surreal House exhibition in the art gallery, the Surreal Film House at Barbican is inviting film and art fans to take a look back at the best of Surrealist cinema with a programme that spans the decades and the most innovative directors. Starting off with screenings from the likes of Dali in the 20s and Jean Cocteau in the 30s, the programme continues to screen relevant works up to and including the present day, ending with Tim Burton's latest Alice in Wonderland 3D.
The Surreal Film House at Barbican takes place from Friday 11th June - Thursday 22nd July 2010. Tickets are £9.50, or £7.50 concessions; under 15s are £4.50 and Monday Madness tickets are all £5.50.
