Sustainable Futures at Design Museum explores the notion that every single piece of design should consider the sustainability of the source material and think about how we can be more aware of our waste levels in the future.
Sustainable Futures at Design Museum
Focusing on design and architecture projects that have lead the way with positive approaches towards a sustainable future, the exhibition at Design Museum takes a step towards making these ideas a reality for consumers and designers in the current climate of recession, ethical and environmental awareness.
From fashion to fish
Many of the items on show in Sustainable Futures at Design Museum are either already on the market or under development for consumers. Visitors will be fascinated by the inclusion of designs such as the Masdar Development which is the world's first carbon neutral city in Abu Dhabi, and fashion lovers will be keen to see the creations of Christopher Raeburn which reuse Ministry of Defense parachute materials. One of the oddest articles on show in the Design Museum exhibition is the Local River, which is a combined refrigerator and aquarium, that breeds fish and grows herbs simultaneously.
Are you supporting sustainable futures?
One of the major parts of the exhibition is set to get visitors to question their own consumption habits and see whether they are making a positive contribution alongside the designers taking part in Sustainable Futures. At Design Museum you can explore the ways in which various designers and architects have created solutions for various environmental problems, and examine your own role in embracing sustainability.
Ethical exhibition
Alongside the architecture models, various design products and prototypes on show, you can also get more hands on with film footage and interactive displays. Plus, all environmentally and ethically minded visitors to the exhibition will be pleased to know that all parts of Sustainable Futures at Design Museum have been sourced as sustainably as possible, using materials and resources that have caused minimal impact to the environment.
The exhibition, Sustainable Futures at Design Museum, takes place from 10am - 5.45pm, Wednesday 31st March - Sunday 5th September 2010. Tickets are £8.50, concessions are £6.50 and students are £5.00.
