While for many the thought of drinking anything containing tarantulas and scorpions sounds like a terrible punishment that might be meted out to reality TV show contestants, for more adventurous cocktail connoisseurs the tarantula and scorpion cocktail at The Langham is a unique treat worth sampling at least once. The cocktail won Alex Kratena and Francesco Orefici at The Artesian Bar the coveted title of Courvoisier Punch Masters 2010 for its originality and unique taste, and now visitors to the bar can taste the drink for themselves.

Aphrodisiac ingredients
Complementing the rich taste of the VSOP cognac in the tarantula and scorpion cocktail at The Langham is an infusion of oven baked tarantula, which adds notes of wood and tobacco to the cocktail. The cocktail also contains scorpion, which is said to boost the libido.

Specialist potion
Called the Scorpion and Oven Baked Tarantula Tea Punch, the tarantula and scorpion cocktail at The Langham contains VSOP cognac as well as Poire William eau de vie, Sencha tea, bitters, freshly squeezed lemon juice, mandarin peel infused sugar and the Caribbean liqueur Velvet Falernum. The carefully mixed cocktail is then served in a china teacup.
