Creating a mini fiesta in London, the Regent Street Taste of Spain returns this year for a series of Spanish events throughout the traffic free day on London's famous shopping street. With flamenco dancers, live music and regional food on offer, you can get a real taste of Spain in London by sampling the local delicacies and enjoying the vibrant and carnivalesque atmosphere.
Traffic free day
A whole host of venues will be taking part in the celebrations of the Spanish food festival once more, offering a taste of Spanish regional dance, music and food. Different Spanish regions will be represented in the fiesta, with food and arts coming to the centre of London to showcase the very best that Spain has to offer. Regent Street will be closed to traffic during the day, so you can stroll around the area from Oxford Circus to Piccadilly Circus and take in all the Spanish sights, sounds and smells on offer.
Flamenco and more
Returning once more for 2011, Taste of Spain features a live performance from brass band Charanga Chicuelina and also includes a Spanish fashion show and plenty of classic Flamenco dancing, music and song from the Andalucia region. This unique dancing is sure to bring in the crowds and get the festival off to a flying start with passionate displays and flamboyant colours.
Giant paellas
Representatives from Valencia are cooking up a storm during the fiesta by making two giant paellas in huge cast iron dishes on Regent Street to serve to festival goers. DJs from the party island of Ibiza will be adding to the holiday atmosphere, and there will also be a jaw dropping equestrian show featuring nine thoroughbred horses from Menorca.
Delicious food
Entertainment throughout the Taste of Spain festival comes in the form of flamenco dancers and Spanish guitar music, which can be enjoyed as you dine out on delicious authentic Spanish cuisine. You can also look forward to a food market with artisanal cheeses, peppers and chorizo, as well as olives, pates and traditional local delicacies at a Taste of Spain 2011.
Sporting activities
Kids and families will want to keep a look out for all the sporting activities, which include an F1 pit stop challenge, Wii tennis, and golf and football simulators. There's also the chance to try out your basketball skills in the shoot the hoop challenge.
The Taste of Spain festival takes place from 12pm - 7pm, Sunday 5th June 2011. Admission to the festival is free.
