An unusual Tate modern sugar cube model is on show at Bankside during the London Festival of Architecture alongside one of the new NEO Bankside development. Created from thousands of individual sugar cubes, these sugary structures are well worth a look for those sweet on architecture.
Tate Modern sugar cube model
London's most iconic art gallery made entirely out of sugar is something that wouldn't look amiss at the venue itself, but this model has been created by sculptor Brendan Jamison for the 2010 London Festival of Architecture.
Bankside on show
Part of the three week long festival, the 1:100 scale model is located at the site of the brand new NEO Bankside development, where you can also see a sculpture of the NEO Bankside building alongside the Tate Modern sugar cube model. Created from over 80,000 individual sugar cubes, the Tate Modern sculpture weighs around 255 kilograms and it's famous chimney stack reaches over one metre high.
Bankside Urban Forest Weekend
With events taking place all over the city, the sugar models are on show for the special Bankside themed weekend, which will encourage thousands of LFA visitors into the area to check out the best that South East London has to offer. Once you have seen the NEO Bankside and Tate Modern sugar cube models, kids can take part in special workshops where they can learn how to make small structures themselves.
London Festival of Architecture
As the London Festival of Architecture takes place from Saturday 19th June - Sunday 4th July, there is plenty of time to seek out inspiring new buildings, unusual design pieces and fantastic workshops. Whether you want to spend time in an urban orchard, get cooking with a pop up cookery school or attend origami workshops, there is plenty to inspire and excite.
