The Thai Food Festival at Greenwich Park celebrates the very best in Thai food and culture. With two whole days of delicious cuisine to sink your teeth into and fabulous Thai entertainment to watch, the Thai Food Festival is sure to be a hit with foodie lovers and cultural fans alike.
Second year
Returning for 2009, the Thai Food Festival follows hot on the heels of last year's Thai festival. Bringing even more Thai style food and entertainment to London, this is an event for those that can't get enough of Thailand.
Greenwich Park
Over 20,000 visitors are expected to attend Greenwich Park over the weekend to see the sights and smell the delicious cooking smells emanating from the grounds. Transforming itself into a beautfiul Thai village for just two days, there will be plenty of food and entertainment for all.
Festival restaurants
Last year's headliner for the Thai Food Festival was renowned London restaurant Blue Elephant. Showcasing their signatures dishes such as Thai green chicken curry and black pepper tiger prawn, visitors tried out the food, and even bought some ingredients from the grocery stall to take home and recreate that authentic taste. Other Thai restaurants were also be on hand to tempt with their Thai delights, with Sugar Hut, Chaopraya Eat Thai and Krungtap amongst them. Check back soon for information on the restaurants for 2009.
Shopping and more
Although Thai food is the main theme of the festival, there will also be plenty of traditional Thai entertainment to round off your visit to Greenwich Park. You can spend time browsing the market stalls for jewellery, clothes and hand crafted ornaments, or treat yourself to an indulgent shoulder and foot massage. Thai beer and wine will also be on offer to aid your relaxation, and introduce you to a new drinking experience.
Traditional entertainment
Traditional Thai dancers will start off the festival with a parade from the St Mary's Gate entrance, past the National Maritime Museum to the Royal Observatory and up to the main stage, before they entertain the crowds. And for those that like their entertainment with a bit more bite, there will also be several shows of Thai boxing at the Thai Food Festival, a very popular sport in Thailand that is becoming increasingly widespread in the UK too.
Summer fun
A fantastic cultural experience coupled with a chance to sample some of the most appetising South East Asian foods, the Thai Food Festival is set to become another great festival on the summer calendar.
The Thai Food Festival takes place from 11am to 6pm on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August. Tickets are £3.00 in advance, or £5.00 for adults on the door. Kids under 120cm get in free. If you would like to book tickets in advance, click on the link below for more information.
