Taking place during the Mayor of London's Thames Festival, the Thames Parade sees scores of boats take to the river for a jubilant display of quirky pageantry.

River parade
From oyster smacks and barges to pleasure cruisers and luxury yachts, the Thames Parade sees boats of a variety of different sizes and ages take to the river in a colourful celebration of London's waterways. Low on pomp and ceremony but high in diversity and eccentricity, the parade pays tribute to the Thames and all who sail upon the river.

Live music
Accompanied by live music and commentary from the banks of the river, the Thames Parade is one of the highlight events of the 2011 Thames Festival. The parade starts from the Queen Elizabeth II Pier by The O2 arena in Greenwich, and winds its way to Millbank Pier in Pimlico before turning around and heading for Cherry Garden Pier, east of Tower Bridge.

Festival highlights
Alongside the Thames Parade, other highlights of the Thames Festival include a traffic free day of food and festivities on Southwark Bridge, as well as the illuminated night carnival. The two day festival ends with a spectacular fireworks display between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge.
