Watch the world premiere of the painstakingly restored early Hitchcock work The Lodger at Barbican, when the famous performing arts venue screens the silent film accompanied by a newly commissioned, live orchestral score.

The genius of Hitchcock
Part of a series of events featuring Hitchcock's newly restored silent films paired with fresh musical scores, the screening of The Lodger at Barbican gives movie buffs the chance to revel in the genius of this master filmmaker, born in east London in 1899. The world premiere of the restored film is set to a new score by Nitin Sawhney, which will be performed on the night by the London Symphony Orchestra.

The Lodger
The Barbican screening gives film fans the chance to revisit the 1926 film, starring Ivor Novello in a role that challenges the audience to revise their perception of the popular silver screen idol. Making the most of its foggy London setting and drawing on popular memories of the Jack the Ripper murders, The Lodger follows the tale of a mysterious man who moves into the house of Mr and Mrs Bunting at the same time as a serial killer with an eye for young blonde women is stalking the streets of the city.

Suspense thriller
Regarded as the first suspense thriller made by the director who would later become known as The Master of Suspense, the special screening of The Lodger at Barbican is likely to be a hugely popular event, with tickets in high demand. The British Film Institute (BFI) are responsible for restoring this early Hitchcock work, and alongside the event at the Barbican, have organised screenings of other silent films at locations across the city, to coincide with the London 2012 Festival.

London 2012 Festival
