The Paper Eaters at Selfridges are taking over the Ultralounge throughout April as they take up position as artists in residence. Creating new and exciting paper based artwork in this unusual exhibition and installation, this is your star in your very own photo story art.
The Paper Eaters at Selfridges
Mixing up live performances, installations, exhibitions and visitor interaction, the Paper Eaters at Selfridges gives you the chance to step back in time to experience the fun and creativity of the photo story format. Often used by teen magazines such as Jackie in the past, the Paper Eaters, aka Andrea Bood and Zoe Sinclair, are bringing them back with avengence.
Long live the photo story
Setting up their own magazine office in the Paper Eaters exhibition space, the girls are setting out to create three special magazine issues during their residence in the Ultralounge. Recreating an 80s pop video style atmosphere, and inviting empoloyees and shoppers to take part in the photo story creation process, the printed Long Live the Photo Story magazines will be the end product of the Paper Eaters at Selfridges.
A shrine to paper
Alongside the chance to take part in the photo shoots and on the 80s dance floor, give your opinions at editorial meetings and contribute to the copy on old fashioned style typewriter, all visitors to see the Paper Eaters at Selfridges will be able to view the Mexican style shrine to paper and printing. Created on site in the Ultralounge, the shrine is constructed from all kinds of paper objects, including personalised emphemera and other random articles. You can also add your own paper offering to the shrine.
Hot off the presses
Once the Paper Eaters editorial office is set up and taking on contributions from the public, the girls are set to produce their magazine, with three issues due out before the end of the installation. Based on the themes of Supernatural, Transformation and Mistaken Identity, the copies of Long Live the Photo Story will be produced in house with help from the public, Selfridges staff and guests from the world of fashion and art. Inspired by the eighties style features from teen magazines, the separate issues will be available to pick up instore throughout the residence of the Paper Eaters at Selfridges.
The Paper Eaters at Selfridges exhibition takes place from 9.30am - 8pm, with late openings until 9pm on Friday and Saturday, from Thursday 1st April - Thursday 29th April 2010. Entrance is free.
