Attended Refinery on the 19th May. Was not too impressed with the male guest list man, dry sense of humour and not too friendly. The girl who was outside was smiley, greeted us and wished us a lovely night. I was very impressed! you do not get people at clubs being friendly and approachable. She made us feel comfortable walking into the club. She also complemented my dress. She is like a feel good factor person. I have seen her before and she is friendly with everyone. The music was excellent and the drinks were reasonable. would reccomend this place and having that girl at the door is very important for people's night to start on a positive. My friends also were happy and we will return!
Had my 23rd birthday on 19th May at The Refinery (London Groove night) - Everyone had an awesome time; music was brilliant and the drinks were reasonable for London. I booked an area for £50 at the back of Refinery (circular booth) - was an excellent location with a slightly separate area from the dance floor and they treated me brilliantly when I arrived and gave me the tab card with £50 to use behind the bar. Was a great evening and would defintely go back! :) x
This place has so much potential, only the staff and extortionate drink prices let it down. The bar creates a huge queue outside despite being empty inside, clearly to market itself as a popular venue. Great fun when it's cold outside. The crowd are mainly of black and Asian background, very laid back, well dressed and genuinely up for a good time without the attitude. The music on Friday night was chart RnB and hip hop. Atmosphere in general was very relaxed without people going overly wild. However, fifteen pounds for a double spirit and mixer!! And the bar tenders were useless! Super slow at serving in tacky glasses. Pricing has let this otherwise decent bar down BIG time. No way on earth value for money. Not even the top west end clubs charge this much for drinks. Will certainly not be returning
Great night out at the Refinery! Fantastic music and good friendly atmophere!
Came here for cocktails and nibbles on a Friday, enjoyed the buzzy vibe and the DJ was spinning some classics. But it died down quite early. The skinny cocktails were a treat tho! Will be back!
I regularly go to the refinery for work lunches. The food comes out extremely efficiently, and is always consistent.
Had a lovey weekend lunch at the refinery, the staff were friendly and the place felt comforting and relaxed, very child friendly. The food was well presented and very morish- especially the cowboy fries!
The anthologist club, was there saturday just gone its a great place to go to hear good music, rnb, hip hop classics, fantastic atmosphere, great for a party venue. I has to organise a joint birthday party and used london groove, the staff, know their stuff down to a T, and where spot on, use these for guest list entry.......

The staff are extremely rude. As soon as we arrived (at 9:20 pm) the staff made us stand outside in the freezing cold for an hour. We were yelled at to stand against the glass wall and not to move out of line. Finally when we were allowed inside the place was super cold and empty. Bad music and not much of a dance floor. Decor was nice but really couldn't make up for the horrible staff. It felt more like a military camp rather than a club. Will not be going back....EVER!
Fantastic night out! Recently celebrated my 30th birthday here with friends. Really helpful staff organising the club night and a very reasonably £50 to reserve a table, which was given back to me as a credit against drinks at the bar.
Highly recommended! Great night out if you love a bit of old skool RnB with a good crowd with no attitude!
Went for lunch on a busy Friday, the food was good, place is very designer chic. However, the staff seem to have been hired for their looks alone, the service was unfriendly and very slow, we waited 20 mins just to order and that was before it got busy. Not surprised to see other similar comments on here and I won't be wasting my lunchtime again.
Worst experience in a restaurant yet!
The service was shocking!
*Was in the restaurant 20 mins before we all had menus.
*The drinks were ordered at the same time as the food and came after it had arrived.
*We had no cutlery when the food arrived, and had to take this from other tables as our server seemed unable to do so.
*2 of 7 meals arrived so late that others in the party had already finished their meals.
The food was not up to the expected standard.
*4 of 7 meals were cold. The pasta that was sent back had obviously been microwaved.
*The “fish” pie had no fish in it. And was cold at the bottom
The refinery has a great atmosphere but unfortunately this was ruined by the lack of heating and the candle wax which leaked through the table onto my boots.
I went here for my work Christmas party last week and was really disappointed. We were supposed to sit down for food at 5.00pm but they were running late and we didn't actually sit down until 6.20; and it took quite a bit longer to serve our food after that. All 60 of us were squeezed into a small area so much so that I couldn't actually bend my elbows to eat my food! Whilst the quality of the food was good, the portion sizes were very menial. I typically have a small appetite and I wasn't full after my three course meal! There was very loud dance type music playing throughout the bar which felt inappropriate for an early evening dinner and meant that I couldn't hear most of my colleagues around me. The staff were too busy to offer a good or personable service but did their best in the circumstances. Definately won't be rushing back here, which is a shame as its very close to where I work.
THE WORST PLACE EVER. DO NOT COME HERE. We came for a 30th birthday (am actually writing this from the venue). Firstly we had a booking for 7.30 and had plans for dinner and drinks. We were told at 7.45 that the kitchen was closing at 8.00. Just before 8.00 we went to order food and were told the kitchen was already closed. After arguing with the cocky and rude bar staff we finally were granted the pleasure of food. At 9.10 we went to order drinks and were told the bar was closed until 10.00. We then sat and watched another 15 people get served. We went back to the bar to complain and try and get drinks and were told the bar was closed. I then questioned the bar staff and was treated as though I was an utter idiot. The only reason we didn't leave at this point is because we had a £50 deposit we couldn't get back until the bar reopened!!!!! We then were told that we had to move tables, despite having a reservation and were FINALLY moved to a table that didn't have enough chairs and was near the door which meant every time someone came in we froze. ABSOLUTE SHIY. RUINED A 30th birthday. DON'T EVER COME HERE.
Went there for the first time last week-end. Bar looks great, music was awesome but the door staff... I don't think some businesses have heard about first impressions... They were beyond rude, I haven't experienced anything like it before, we all felt like prisoners being ordered around by prison wardens... And that was just waiting in the queue! Let alone when you reach the door... Basically we felt they were doing us a favour by letting us in when we are the paying customers!
Despite to cool atmsophere inside and the fab music, I must admit that the behaviour of the staff at the entrance really put me off spending my evening & money there.
I will simply never return, there are already so many nice venues in London with great djs and where customers are treatly kindly that I find no need for me to ever have to go through this "jail like" experience just to get in!
Whilst I was worried that I wouldnt find this club, once I reached the venue it was a pleasant surprise to find an welcoming atmosphere and great staff to make us feel comfortable.
I was in contact with London Groove before the evening who were very accommodating and when my party and I arrived everything was done to make sure that we had a fantastic evening.
And we did! Great music, a lovely friendly club and very clean facilities. The only thing that anyone found to comment on was the fact that there were no bar snacks!
A great time was had by all of my lovely friends and some of them are even talking of a return to The Refinery very soon.
Many thanks to all.
Went to The Refinery on Saturday advertised as a clubnight. Its more of a big bar, not so club-like though. Only a fiver to get in drinks are well priced wicked atmosphere in there. Bar staff generous with their portions. The music was off the hook! Dj was hamazing! Just don’t snap his braces! Don’t think he likes that haha. I had one of the best nights there! I most certainly am going back there!
I went o the refinery with my friends for a lazy Sunday lunch. the ambiance was amazing, loved an outside space, the food was yummy and the have the most extensive cocktail list I've seen in a while! well done guys! definitely will be back soon :)
Horrible service and cold food! Don't go there unless you want to waste your time and money!
I went to the refinery with a group of friends to celebrate my fiance's birthday. Right from the beginning the service was questionable. Our group sat down, and waited for over 20 minutes before we were even spoken to; half our table ended up going to the bar to get their own drinks. When I asked the server to come over to take some drink orders should said 'no problem' and then rolled her eyes as she turned to walk away.
We ordered appetisers for the table, which were good. However, we were sorely disappointed with our mains. We waited an hour for the food, and when it finally arrived, it was cold. Also, only half the table got their food - the rest had to wait for another 30 minutes!
I was constantly having to get up and down to request extra napkins, cutlery, and plates - I might as well have been the server.
When we finally asked to speak to a manager, he was very nice and comped some of our food, but by that time the damage was done. This place has a lot of potential - nice space, and the drinks are really yummy - too bad about the service!
I went to the refinery bar through a promotions company for a friend’s birthday. Considering I eat there for lunch during the week this place is completely different from the day. On Saturday nights it’s a full on club night.
There was a long queue to get in which I was not expecting. But wasn’t that long of a wait. Inside the place is completely transformed. The bar was dimly lit, not an eye squinting hit in the face strobe like club.
The bar service was a little slow but there are many people (more staff hint…). But nice shout to the barman who noticed my regularity cheers mate!
The DJ was fantastic playing everything old to new but a bit of a show off… Displaying all sorts of tricks on a pair of record players which I thought was obsolete these days. But he played all of my requested tracks. Some clubs you can’t talk or even get near the DJ.
There weren’t any kids in the bar just a nice bunch of mature people to party with. My friends and I are definitely going back.
We had our Christmas party here and the service we received was terrible. We were kept waiting for nearly an hour and a half before we were seated, and by 22:00 we still hadn't been served our food. The food itself was delicious otherwise I would have only awarded one star.
An aesthetically pleasing venue, but very poor food. We were one of three tables for brunch so they weren't at all busy.
The "big breakfast" isn't that large. The bacon was grey, rubbery and cold. The toast was cold.
The scrambled eggs were cold. The advertised "flat white" coffee, a rarity in London, was actually plain white coffee poured into a cup.
It seemed the food had been cooked and left to sit for ~10 minutes at least. We will definitely never head back.
as much as I frequent the Tate Modern, I had no idea this gem existed.
the decor is v modern, yet there's a nod towards feng shui in the aesthetic.
and the staff are just lovely.
Amazing, relaxed, all round 10 out of 10
Great for drinking, bad for eating.
Had our Christmas lunch here, the service was really bad, the food order came out wrong, was cold and no apology. Staff are arrogant and rude.
i am thrilled that this venue has opened! after working in the area for quite some time...it is fantastic that there is now somewhere to go! The wine list is incrediable, the food is gorgeous and atomsphere is perfect.
excellent value, prices are reasonable for what is on offer and there is a very relaxed pleasant atmosphere
