The ViewLondon Review
A stone’s throw from Oxford Street and Soho, this little club has all the ingredients for the perfect party night out.The VenueSurprisingly small for such a popular club, The Roxy is tucked away off Oxford Street and comprises one room at the bottom of a trendy stairwell. Red walls adorned with quirky retro portraits, funky chandeliers, a long wooden bar and a handful of seating surrounds a space big enough for a crowd to dance to the belting tunes played there every night. Its size doesn’t make it claustrophobic, although it could do with a few more toilets to reduce the long queues for the ladies.
The AtmosphereIt feels as though everyone is there to have a good time and gets very busy most nights. The clientele is a mix of students, young professionals and the odd stag or hen party, but it doesn’t feel like some of the tackier venues in London that offer such broad appeal.
The DrinkA fairly well-stocked bar serves a selection of bottled beers, wine, champagne, shooters, cocktails by the glass and pitcher, and spirits. There’s various drinks offers throughout the week, a good happy hour every day, including Saturdays, which is welcome and quite unusual in Central London.
The MusicA different club night every day means there’s generally something for everyone, with 60s disco one night, followed by electro, punk and rock n’ roll the next. Friday and Saturday night see a completely random but well-known mix of tunes, such as Kylie seamlessly blended into James, into Michael Jackson, into the Killers – and it works surprisingly well.
The Last WordA great night out. Particularly good for parties and large groups because its size makes it difficult to lose each other. If you fancy dancing and singing shamelessly to an array of pop, disco and indie tunes from the past few decades, The Roxy is well worth a visit.
