'instantly gratifying food'? Come on View London, are you sure you weren't eating next door at the local kebab shop? Tommyfield is a standard style over substance job, where the distinctly average food is served at ludicrous prices, seemingly justified by the gastropub decor. Fine for a couple if you're trying to impress the other half, but steer well clear of the grub.

Tommyfield is certainly a welcome site after walking around Kennington station looking for somewhere to eat. The first thing that greets you is the smartly dressed staff who welcome you with a smile.
The interior stripped and dull quality to it which contracted the flavours of the delicious Bacon and Brie Sandwich I was eating. The food was very tasty and it exceeded my expectations, I also enjoyed the bottle of tap water that was left on the table. However I found the food to be a bit overpriced for my liking, but the cocktails they were serving looked good and the price was right.

I felt moved to write a review when I saw the other reviews posted. It almost feels as though they are not talking about the Tommyfield. I have never had anything but great service. On the last 2 occassions I have eaten with my husband, 3 children and friends, both times we were a group of 10 and the service and food were great. They do really good hamburgers. In fact I have never had a bad meal and only had very good meals.
I think the staff are always helpful and polite.
If I had any complaint at all it would be about the acoustics of the place, it can sometimes feel very loud even when there are only a few people in the place.

For me Sunday lunch conjures up images of crispy roast potatoes with a hint of rosemary and garlic, rich hot gravy, freshly risen Yorkshire puds and a nice warm and cozy atmosphere. If it's the same for you AVOID the Tommyfield. We had to send the first plates back as all aspects of the food were stone cold. What we had instead was no better, it seemed the meat had been taken off the plate and the rest put in the microwave. Cooks (Trades Description Act prevents me from calling them chefs) from catering college these days seem to attend the 'How to Overprice Food' class and the 'Stack the Food like a tower for presentation' lecture but must still be in the Sunday all-nighter for the 9am Monday morning lecture on basic cooking skills. They did take 25% off the final bill but so thankful that I didn't take my mother there, god forbid, she'd think all London eateries were like this.. Surprising really that the place was busy with the yummy mummy brigade but I suppose with the hectic lives they lead having anything cooked for them, no matter how badly, is a godsend..

I had a very good experience at the Tommyfield. The food was all good, and in my view, reasonably priced; the steak and stout pie in particular was excellent.

The Tommyfield has a wide choice of wines by the glass, and plenty at under £20 under a bottle.

I found the service to be polite and helpful, and would happily go back, even though it's not particularly local to me. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely be a regular.

I have been to the Tommyfield a few times, before and after the refurbishment and the change of name. The quality of the food has not improved and, if possible, it has worsened; the service is as slow as ever and often the staff commit themselves to do things they don't do (either they forget about what they have just said or they don't care): once with friends we booked the function room and when we arrived nothing of what was supposed to be there was ready (it seems that nobody checked the diary to see whether there was any bookings and prepare the room. The manager did not look very concerned either!). As just said, the level of service, the quality and the commitment of staff and management is poor and this is very unfortunate because the place is nice and the function room is beautiful. The quality of the food, cooking and presentation is very poor but, at least, is not extremely expensive (or It would be better to say that it is expensive when compared with its quality!). The prices of the drinks are, on the contrary, among the highest in the area so I would expect something more in terms of service and reliability of staff. I do not thinks, and many of my friends think the same, I will go there anymore - or more often - or advice other people to go even if I live and work in the area.

Food is good but service is dreadful. I've been there many times as it's local and hasn't really changed since its been refurbished. The service is always very slow and took almost an hour to get served with dessert last visit. We always end up having to go to the bar to get served or get the bill. Don't visit unless you have lots of time to spare.
