The ViewLondon Review
Young, hip, trendy, contemporary - not really words you’d associate with Kilburn, right? Well, times are changing – welcome to The Westbury. The VenueThis ultra chic, stylised venue is wonderfully finished down to the every last detail. Decedant chandeliers droop enchantingly from the ceiling; luxurious Matrix-style leather sofas are dotted around the room with Victorian style furnishings added to complete the eclectic and modern look. Tall backed chairs are modernised with animal print seats whilst the plain painted walls are highlighted by the addition of bold print chunky borders. Large American-sized pool tables, hired by the hour, dominate most of the open floor space whilst a raised seating area holds a diverse selection of tables and chairs and is ideal for dining. Towards the back there is a small dancefloor situated opposite the DJ booth and a games corner holding two of the three large pool tables, housed side by side with viewing pews arranged around them.
There is a separate room in The Westbury with private bar aptly named The Priory, which is available for private hire. Seductively decorated with deep reds and mahoganies, the room is dimly lit and is ideal for intimate group gatherings.
The AtmosphereYoung, hip and trendy, the venue, the staff and the clientele all fit the bill. An impressive selection of ultra hip DJs ensures this venue sees a regular crowd of music enthusiasts whilst the perpetual funky vibe ensures The Westbury is seldom empty.
The FoodThe small menu is probably the only let down to The Westbury and only because it’s limited – choice is restricted but the food is fresh, well priced and flavoursome. Meaty burgers are generously served with chips and the optional addition of blue or goats cheese. A selection of tempura-style nibbles can be ordered for light bites, these along with the sharing platters are ideal for groups and offer a choice of flavours for mixing and trying new cuisine.
The DrinkWith a wide range of drinks on offer, the busy bar at The Westbury is popular for mixers and cocktails with helpful staff willing to experiment with the decent supply of spirits in stock. They'll happily recommend concoctions, but it sometimes proves a little hit and miss. Unfortunately, the mojitos can be too sweet and sickly.
The wine list is above average with a good selection of well-chosen world wines on offer with reasonable price tags. More a spirit than a beer drinker’s pub, there’s a good selection of lagers and bitters on tap and bottled, but at the end of the day it’s the spirits that outshine, even with the slightly heavy pricing.
The Last WordA real find, bringing the cool to Kilburn? You decide.
