Okay. As everyone will tell you, this is London, this is Park Lane, and food at Theo Randall at the InterContinental will cost a bomb. Not true, and for £54 plus drink and a 'tip', you can have the most delicious, tantalising and filling lunch this side of a Market Kitchen guest chef. Twice a year, myself and my wife treat ourselves to a meal at a 'name' restaurant (though the Saturday dinner is always met by my bank account on the occassion of her birthday - funny that), and today we decided to both take a rare day off, leave our toddler at his usual nursery and treat oursleves. An imposing place, the entrance is neat and classy and we were shown to our table, large, comfortable and away from other diners. As for the actual food, we have no complaint at all. It is true that my starter of smoked eel could have done with less greenery but that overshadows the perfect compliment of the fish and the just-right pickled beetroot. My wife chose the Brasaola and was met with real flavour, deep meat cut through by lemon and finished with a smooth parmasan hit. Certainly not a rare meat eater, she loved it. For mains the 'other half' enjoyed the classic Pappardelle whilst my guinea fowl was a joy to look at, let alone taste. The filling of enough Parma ham slightly oversalted the dish but that is picky. I was desperate to have the chocolate cake (a classic) but the maitre d' suggested I tried Heston's recommendation, the Almafi tart. It was sharp and distinctive , whilst the plate opposite served classic tiramisu. It was therefore a true surprise that the maitre-d' served us a free slice of the said chocolate cake with our coffee -'a shame to leave with the craving of chocolate'portions were double expected at this type of restaurant, service was outstanding from all (though cheers to the outstanding man in charge), and when you need to complain about being 'too' full up, there is no reason to complain at all. Total bill was just under £100 including drink and service - a su
I have been lucky enough to dine in some of the best restaurants in London but Theo Randall at The Intercontinental is my favourite. The food is amazing and the service is attentive, professional and friendly.
The Theo Randall's a fairly expensive and upmarket restaurant. Not the place for a quick bite to eat! We went last month for our anniversary and had a lovely time.
Delicious food and excellent service made the evening even more special. Thank you Theo Randall!
I absolutely love Theo Randall so I cannot wait for his restuarant at the Intercontinental to open. The hotel looks pretty impressive too, and I have been told that a lot of effort has been put into the restaurant so this sounds very promising indeed.
I am, however, going to start saving... Theo Randall at the Intercontinental is not going to be a cheap trip!
