The This is Design exhibition taking place at the Design Museum celebrates the institute's own collection of historical and contemporary design objects, and puts on show some of their most famous items. Having been in storage for the past five years, the Collection has been catalogued, documented and conserved and now stands on its own as a unique exhibition, charting the history of design in the UK.

This is Design
An exhibition that invites you to take a look at not just how design has changed, but how design has changed us, This is Design contains a wealth of pieces from the worlds of furniture, fashion, transport, products, ceramics and graphics. Ranging from some of the earliest items of mass production right through to contemporary designs being made today, the exhibition explores the ways in which the smallest object can have the biggest impact on society.

Modern life
Divided into sections such as Identity and Digital Revolution, the show aims to demonstrate how design deciphers the modern world and helps us use the obejcts around us. Combining prototypes, drawings, couture samples, models, first editions and industrial objetcs, This is Design exhibition focuses on the development of the design process and its influence on culture, as well as the nature of quiet or accidental design, which enables us to better understand the world we live in.

Exhibition highlights
A must-see show for anyone with a passion for design, the exhibition includes various classics such as the Anglepoise lamp, a phone from the 1920s, the Moulton bicycle and road signage from the sixties. Large scale architectural models are also on show, such as Norman Foster's HSBC Bank headquarters in Hong Kong, alongside street furniture and an original Mini car.

This is Design exhibition takes place from Wednesday 24th August 2011 - Sunday 22nd January 2012 at Design Museum.
