Afternoon tea and London go together like two peas in a pod, and the clever folk at Swissotel The Howard have come up with a way to combine the two. TLSee afternoon tea is a traditional afternoon tea served with a twist – pastries and patisseries in the shape of miniature London landmarks. If you’ve always admired the architecture and icons of the capital, now you have the chance to enjoy them in a totally different way.

Afternoon tea
Whilst once seen as an old fashioned tourist favourite, afternoon tea is enjoying a trendy resurgence as of late with everything from art tea, fashion tea and tea for men popping up in hotels and restaurants across the capital. Though it’s still a must-try for tourists, Londoners are getting in on the act too, whether it’s the traditional, classic version or something a bit more individual.

On the menu
Designed by Swissotel The Howard’s executive chef Brian Spark, the TLSee afternoon tea – which stands for tea, London, sightseeing – starts off with finger sandwiches and home-baked scones with clotted cream. Following that is a selection of macaroons, lemon drizzle cake and carrot cake.

The main event
Of course, the main draw of the TLSee afternoon tea is the fact that you can see the capital’s most famous buildings and landmarks in miniature – and then eat them. The patisserie items are all baked at the hotel and hand finished, providing mini treats that are delicately detailed.

London landmarks
With the TLSee afternoon tea you’ll be able to choose from a selection of nine pastries, each one a miniature version of a London icon. Choices include Big Ben, Tower Bridge, a black cab, the London Eye, Temple underground sign, a post box, St Paul’s Cathedral, an old Routemaster and the Crown Jewels. Big Ben appears as a 3D chocolate replica filled with raspberry ganache, whilst the Crown Jewels glitter courtesy of a gold leaf finish.

Tea and more
Afternoon tea isn’t complete without, of course, tea. The Swissotel The Howard’s version includes a selection of Twinings. A special promotional price of £28 per person is available for the launch of the tea, which will also include a glass of Alan Thienot Champagne.

The TLSee afternoon tea is available at Swissotel The Howard from 10th September 2009 between 1pm and 7pm and costs £28 per person.
