Join in the tomato fun with the Tomatina Festival at La Tasca in August. Based on the Tomatina food fight that takes place on the last Wednesday of August every year in Bunol, Valencia, the Tomatina Festival at La Tasca celebrates the humble tomato in all its forms.

From delicious tomatoey dishes to creating your own Tomatina style food fight, the tomato festival at La Tasca brings the flavour and festivities of Spain to London for the summer. Culminating in a weekend of all kinds of tomato related events over the August Bank Holiday, the festival also does its bit for charity.

La Tomatina
Never heard of the original Tomatina festival? Once a year the people of Bunol gather in the streets to pelt each otehr with overripe tomatoes all in the name of fun. Thousands of people come from all over the world to witness this unusual spectacle, and the quantities of tomatoes thrown is an astonishing one hundred metric tons.

Get creative with tomatoes
Now, La Tasca is not inviting you to come down to the restaurant and start hurling tomatoes around just yet, but you can create your own Tomatina Festival at home, record it and enter it into the festival competition. Either photos or video clips of your tomatoey antics could win you a holiday to Valencia, a tomato red iPod nano or a t shirt for your efforts. Those not wanting to get messy can also create tomato based recipes or artistic photos of the shiny fruit (yes, it's a fruit) to enter the competition too.

Delicious recipes
Throughout August La Tasca are serving five delicious tomato based dishes in honour of the Tomatina Festival. Tuck into the likes of baked tomato stuffed with chorizo paella, warm salad of cherry tomatoes with chorizo and white beans, or sliced tomatoes served with spinach and red onion. Everyone of the dishes served from the Tomatina menu sees 20p go towards the Teenage Cancer Trust, so you are doing your bit for charity too.

Charity fun
To end the Tomatina Festival at La Tasca in true fiesta style, all kinds of activties and events will be taking place in restaurants around London over the weekend of Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th August. From tomato racing, fiesta dancing, to tomato dunking and all other kinds of Spanish craziness, you can have a great time and raise even more for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
