Great night on Saturday although was slightly overcrowded! Guessing it was to do with the new DJ. Great hour or two of house classics. Actually felt I was in Ibiza at one stage minue the sun :-)
Have to agree with negative comments on door staff -rudest i have encountered in london. Also when a place insists on asking everyone who enters for ID (I am 33 for gods sake) it makes me think that either it has a huge problem with controlling its patrons or that it employs agressive bar staff to create the impression of exclusivity, which brings me back to my previous point. Ruins the vibe. There are many better places to have fun in london so why bother?
great place for a drink - lovely staff, nice outside area (but no heaters) and often have live bands. Quirky decoration and atmosphere make it a fun evening and things really get going on Friday and Saturday nights. I would def recommend
Love the venue but please get some outside heaters!!!
I had been wanting to try Tram and Social for a while and when I got a call from a friend inviting me for some post work drinks on a Friday night, I was not disappointed.
Nestled in the heart of Tooting Broadway, The Tram and Social is a real gem. The interior is cool, quirky and different - books, paintings, ornaments adorn the high ceiling-ed room. There is a large downstairs area and balconies. The atmosphere is pleasant and the bar service is some of the quickest I have ever experienced in London. Even when it was busy I wasn't waiting long.
Pre 9pm it was a lively hub of excited post work chatter and post 9pm an extremely trendy Shoreditch-esq female DJ hit the decks spinning mash ups of 80's classics and had lots of people up dancing.
With wine at £5 for a large glass, room to dance and a 'let your hair down' atmosphere, this has the potential to become my Friday night venue of choice.
Been to Tooting Tram and Social numerous times throughout the year, there can be, on occasions a long wait for a drink, I believe this is because the Tram-shed is only good place to drink in Tooting, the bar staff are always helpful, and efficient, they always seem to be working incredibly hard, due to the vast amount of people who drink there. The decor is quirky, and sympathetic to the incredible building. I've always enjoyed this place. Not tried the food yet, think I will next time I go.
Having lived in the Tooting/colliers Wood area for the past four years the opening of a bar of this quality and style etc is most welcome. However, I was taken aback by the attitude of the bar-woman when I went in with a friend two weeks ago. We have both worked in busy bars for years and understand the pressures etc but on a Wednesday evening with about 20 people she was simply rude to the point we nearly walked out before getting our first drinks. No please/thank you, couldn't be more unhelpful - when we asked about wine she more or less threw the wine list at us.
I asked about the food that was being served and she said the menu was on the tables and walked off. We are in no way 'difficult' customers but for a new venture you would expect more helpful and friendly staff. That experience on its own is enough to stop me going in again for a night out, which is a shame as the decor/vibe etc is lovely. Customers shouldn't have to feel like they have to apologise to bother the barstaff to ask for a drink/food.
Its the central Perk (the coffee bar on friends tv series) for the south London crowd, once you are indoors surrounded by lovely like minded young execs and good friends its hard to believe that you are in a dump like tooting.
with old and odd bits of furniture and decor its quirky but yet cozy offering a vast amount of group seating or cosy by yourself settings too to cosy up with a drink and book.good atmosphere, huge selection of beers for a good price too.
only downsides is that its based in tooting so you get the occasional rif raf on weekdays and the bar-staff are too busy to control it and after as the evening get later and later so does the music urging you to end up freezing outside in the smoking area just to finish your conversation that you nice and comfortably started inside.
Came here for the Rockaoke on Saturday and had a great time.
It was very busy but the staff were still incredibly pleasant and efficient.
The building is stunning, it is a true hidden gem.
I thoroughly recommend the place and will be back very soon.
I agree that the place is beautiful and I actually found the bar staff very pleasant.
My problem with the place was the door staff. They were incredibly rude and aggressive with my friend (a 5ft blonde) for using her phone on the stairs.
When they decided to throw her out (for asking whether signs could be put up to warn people not to use the phone) we left with a very bad taste in our mouth.
They were overzealous and actually caused greater disquiet and upset a lot more people than the original "offence" warranted. What a shame.
This place is FAB and just what Tooting needed. Balham and Clapham have long had trendy bars, and now tooting has joined in for all the people who would love to live elsewhere but just cant afford it.
Great beer/cider/wine selections – random stuff but thats what you want (unless you are a chav who does not like change and who would have preferred the Scream pub that it was before). Service also good, and able to offer recommendations when I was there after work ( i ended up with pear and lemon cider which was different!)
Somewhere you can go and curl up on a leather sofa by a fire, and hear yourself think after work! great if you know your friends are often late as you dont feel out of place sitting by yourself watching people. Then, in the evening, it becomes funky (and loud!)
Big Screens show films/sport but didnt intrude when I was last there and the mishmash of furniture offers a laid back feel and enough seating for a lot of people.
I love the place, and just hope more bars like this come to Tooting. For reference, the Balham Bowls Club is owned by the same people.

Waited half an hour to get served then when tried to get someone attention got told that couldn't I see there was a queue. You don't say! Shame they haven't got the basic bar technique of knowing who is next in line. Shame.
Simply gorgeous, I have never before been out-dressed by a building, especially a tram shed, but there's a first time for everything I guess. Make sure you dust off your best pearl necklace for this one and I see from the choir's myspace they have another Birdwatching night planned for the 13th December! I'll be there fo sho.
This place is such a gorgeous venue - it's tucked away down a little alley next to an old bingo hall, but the clientele couldn't be more different - no fat ladies in sight.
The decor is a like an antiquarian palace with a mish mash of a million different styles and textures. The sound system is no gramophone though - it's damn loud. I was there back in Feb for the Birdwatching clubnight and the place was absolutley jumping.
