Whilst the Tour of Britain event has been spectacular from the start, the finish promises to be phenomenal with the Tour of Britain London stage of the cycle race making up the final stretch of the race which has been divided into six stages.
Tour of Britain Vital StatisticsWidely regarded as the UK's greatest professional cycle race, the Tour of Britain consists of six stages starting with the Tour of Britain London event on Sunday 7th September 2008. A true test of stamina and endurance, the Tour of Britain event starts in London city centre and ends in Liverpool on 14th September, so expect eager and determined faces from all the cyclists who want to make it to the finishing line.
Elite cyclists competeWhilst you may marvel at the sheer speed at which the competitors race past after five days on the road, you can take some comfort from the fact that the Tour of Britain competitors are all professionals. Some of the world's elite cycle teams will be pedalling furiously to the finishing line past some of the most impressive monuments in the capital. Stage one sees the Tour of Britain London race route include impressive sights along the way. London landmarks the cyclists will be pedalling past include Tower Bridge, St Pauls Cathedral and Big Ben.
Stage 1 of Tour of Britain 2008Stage 1 is the first stage and as such the Tour of Britain London race promises to be a memorable occasion, not least because it takes place the year after the famous Tour de France hit the capital. Make sure you plan your viewing spot in advance to ensure that you don't miss any of the fast paced pedalling.
London Grand PrixThe London Grand Prix takes places on the southern section of the circuit around Victoria Embankment, Whitehall and Northumberland Avenue from 10.30am to get the action off to a great start, and then from 1pm onwards the riders will warm up on the circuit before the race starts for real at 1.30pm.

- 1.31pm - Northumberland Avenue
- 1.34pm - Blackfriars Bridge

- 1.35pm - London Bridge/Lower Thames Street
- 1.36pm - Tower Hill; King of the Mountains laps 2, 6 and 8
- 1.37 - Lower Thames Street
- 1.38pm - Upper Thames Street
- 1.40pm - Black Friars Bridge
- 1.42pm - Victoria Embankment
The race then continues around the same route for ten laps, with the race itself finishing adjacent the London Eye on Victoria Embankment at approximately 3.39pm.
Cycling Tour eventsDuring the day several events will be taking place in the capital in addition to the Tour of Britain London race including Go Ride, a family festival packed with activities, entertainment and advice to help encourage children and adults of all ages start cycling in the capital. Go Ride will be taking place from 12pm on Victoria Embankment. The Tour of Britain 2008 will also be hosting the BikeJam at Tower Hill from 10.30am until 3.30pm.
The Tour of Britain London race takes place on Sunday 7th September 2008. The cycle race starts from Victoria Embankment at approximately 1.30pm and finishes back there at approximately 3.30pm.
