An exhibition by Tracey Emin at Fitzroy Square takes place this autumn as the artist installs a series of site specific artworks. Entitled The Vanishing Lake, the exhibition takes its name from the novel by Emin, which was inspired by the lake outside her home in France.

Tracey Emin at Fitzroy Square
Organised by White Cube gallery, this Tracey Emin exhibition takes place in the splendid surroundings of number 6 Fitzroy Square. Designed by Robert Adam in 1794, it has been home to numerous writers and artists over the years, before it became a bank in the 1930s. Having been restored to its former glory by a preservation group in the nineties, the space has now been taken over by the artist as its evolution corresponds perfectly with her theme of the vanishing lake.

The Vanishing Lake
The Vanishing Lake is the not only the title of the novel and exhibition by Tracey Emin at Fitzroy Square, it is an actual lake situated by her house in France. Disappearing and reappearing throughout the seasons, the lake is the inspiration for a variety of self portraits, textile pieces and drawings, and neon lightwork.

Exhibition highlights
Concentrating on her favourite themes of biography, melancholia, loss and motherhood, much of the work on show in the exhibition by Tracey Emin at Fitzroy Square is centred around her previous life and her multi-faceted incarnations. With titles like Knowing How I Am, Anatolian Princess, Beautiful Girl and Prayers for Mother, fans of her work can see work inspired not only by her past but taken from other artists too. Sure to be a favourite with many visitors is another of her classic neon lightworks, that reads I Followed You Into The Water Knowing I Would Never Return, located at the entrance to the exhibition.

Forthcoming Emin exhibitions
Having already taken over the Hayward Gallery with her major retrospective earlier in the year and hosted several smaller shows in London last year, Tracey Emin shows no sign of slowing down her artistic output. She is currently planning a solo exhibition at the latest Turner gallery to open, down in Margate for May 2012 and is set to have her very first big show in America at the Brooklyn Museum in 2013.

The exhibition by Tracey Emin at Fiztroy Square takes place from Wednesday - Sunday, from Friday 7th October - Sunday 12th November 2011. Please note that the exhibition will also be closed from Wednesday 19th - Sunday 23rd October.
