Trafalgar Square
Head to the Trafalgar Square beach for a genuine summer party and see off the season in style. The Mayor of London is hosting a free festival called One Magic Summer right up to the August Bank Holiday Weekend, complete with deck chairs, classic seaside entertainment and plenty of summer fun. Scorching.
Beach party in London
Forget pigeons and concrete in Trafalgar Square. The famous central London landmark will be transformed into a sun-touched seaside refuge, perfect for a cheeky getaway in the run up to the Bank Holiday. One Magic Summer will be bringing all the vibrancy of the summer to the Trafalgar Square beach with deck chairs, beach huts, and end of pier entertainment, so whatever the weather you're guaranteed a great beach party. The event ends with a hilarious take on London Olympic fever with the Dot Comedy Unfit Athletes fun runners, and the British Asian dance company Nutkhut are also bringing some Bollywood glamour to the final weekend.
No sand in your shoes
Visitors to the Trafalgar Square beach can enjoy a programme of quirky and light hearted entertainment throughout the One Magic Summer festival. Acts include the Swervy World Beach Huts, manned by the talkative Bill and Vera beside their vintage 1950s camper van, and Markmark Productions It's a Kind of Magic, featuring magic tricks and power ballads from the 1980s.
Free fun
All of the events at the One Magic Summer festival are free to attend, with performances scheduled from 12pm - 2pm and 5pm - 7pm every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as Bank Holiday Monday. Deckchairs are available from 10am - 8pm daily, so even if you're not in the mood to catch a show, you can still soak up some sun and watch the world go by.
Beach chic
With more people deciding to ditch the expensive holiday abroad in favour of home grown entertainment and relaxation this year, you can expect to be joined by crowds of kids, families, and culture vultures during a festival of summer fun in London. The Trafalgar Square beach themed events also include some anarchic interactive tennis games and impromptu dance routines, so be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in to all the festivities.
