To start the year in an eco friendly way, the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree recycling event features London deputy mayor Richard Barnes and young people from the Chickenshed theatre company feeding the 20 metre Christmas tree into a giant industrial shredder. The chips and pulp from the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree will be used as compost on the Parliament Square flower beds, so you'll have a memento of the Christmas season when you see the spring and summer flowers in all their glory in 2009.

Leading the way
The giant chipping and shredding event in Trafalgar Square is designed to encourage Londoners to make 2009 the greenest year yet. A number of London councils are offering free Christmas tree recycling services - for more information, click on the link below.
