On Saturday 23rd May 2009 the West End will be transformed into a huge car-free pedestrian shopping extravaganza in the Traffic Free Shopping Day London event. For only the fourth time in London's history the whole of Oxford Street will be closed to traffic for a day of entertainment, shopping and festivities. After considerable success in the previous traffic free shopping days at Christmas time, the pedestrian shopping day returns again for the second May bank holiday in 2009.

Very Important Pedestrians
Letting pedestriants reclaim Oxford Street, the Traffic Free Shopping Day London event promises to be a day of hassle free shopping for Londoners. There will be lots of entertainment on show including a range of VIP treats, games and activities for kids and families, and the very best live music.

Live entertainment
The Traffic Free Shopping Day will feature live street entertainment, with a selection of performers taking to the streets in festive style. Expect a vibrant, upbeat day of shopping in one of London's most popular shopping districts.

The freedom to shop
We all know how busy the West End can get and it’s a bit of an understatement to say that the pavements can get crowded during peak shopping hours. In the Traffic Free Shopping Day London event the entire West End shopping district will be exclusively for pedestrians, with no road traffic at all on the day.

Spring shopping
Londoners can go on the hunt for treats to pamper themselves with at the Traffic Free Shopping Day London event and gear up for sprng and summer in style. With no cars, buses or taxis to worry about you can go from shop to shop in ease and worry about the serious business of gift hunting.

Night at the Museum 2
Oxford Street will be celebrating the launch of the new film, Night at the Museum 2, throughout the car free shopping day with large scale models of a dinosaur and rocket, as well as plenty of in-character actors. There will alse be large television screens giving movie fans a sneak preview of some of the action from the new film.

Entertainment in store
The May 2009 Traffic Free Shopping Day will also feature a range of special offers and promotions from big name stores such as Selfridges, House of Fraser, Primark, John Lewis and Debenhams. Many of the stores will be open until 9pm, so there'll be plenty of opportunities to indulge in some retail therapy.

The Traffic Free Shopping Day London event takes place on Saturday 23rd May 2009. Oxford Street will be closed to traffic throughout the day, and the main entertainment runs from 12pm - 5pm.
