Tree Houses at Regents Park

Giving you the chance to spend the summer soaking up some arts and culture in a highly unusual location, the tree houses at Regents Park are hosting a series of exhibitions and special events from July to September 2009.

Tree House Gallery
With their programme of crafts workshops, live music, interactive art installations and more, the giant tree houses at Regents Park offer a range of activities for all ages and interests. Collectively called the Tree House Gallery, the temporary installations are set up in and around the tree tops by the Boating Lake in the royal park.

The ultimate in green, ecological idealism put into practice, the majority of the Tree House Gallery is built from naturally sourced materials and recycled city waste. The tree houses are fuelled by renewable energy sources on the site, and a number of independent organisations have lent their skills to make sure that the project is self sufficient and won't do any harm to its beautiful natural environment.

Gallery spaces
The giant tree houses at Regents Park are divided into three independent structures that are linked together via a series of bridges and walkways, and there's also an elevating art piece to make a portion of the galleries open to disabled art lovers and the very young. The arts spaces include the bulb shaped Budding Hub Gallery, made from hazel and willow, and the Box Galleries, a collection of cube shaped areas made from both found and natural construction materials.

Treat your inner child
If you harbour nostalgic memories of shinning trees in your youth, or even if you never quite had the courage to make it off of terra firma, then the Tree House Gallery gives you the chance to treat your inner child to some honest to goodness arboreal romping. There's a netted walkway strung with hanging pods to play about in, and if you've tired yourself out and want to relax with a good book, then there's also the Spherical Reading Gallery, which has a library full of hundreds of bark bound books for you to peruse.

Special events
Kids and art lovers of all ages can take part in the various special activities taking place in the tree houses and surrounding areas, which include puppetry workshops, woodcut printing, drama games, piano performances, the art of making jewellery from recycled materials, and folk song workshops. The tree houses at Regents Park are open from Sunday 19th July - Sunday 6th September 2009. Gallery opening times are 10am - 4pm Monday - Thursday, and 10am - 8pm Friday - Sunday. Admission is free.
