The Turner Prize at Tate Britain returns for 2009 with an exhibition of works from a selection of shortlisted artists. Art fans can see who’s nominated for one of the biggest prizes in the art world before the winner is decided in December.
Turner Prize at Tate BritainA collection of new and recent works from four shortlisted artists will be on display at the Tate Britain from October until December, giving visitors the chance to see what’s new for 2009. The shortlisted Turner Prize artists for 2009 are Enrico David, Roger Hiorns, Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright.
New for 2009Established in 1984, the Turner Prize exists to highlight developments in contemporary art and raise the profile of new and upcoming artists in the UK. The total prize fund is £40,000 this year, with £25,000 going to the overall winner and £5,000 each going to the three runners up.

The Virgin Mary. Many of these artists have attracted controversy over subject matter, artistic merit and materials used, which include a soiled bed, elephant dung, and a halved cow in formaldehyde.
Highlight works in Turner Prize 2008The last exhibition for the Turner Prize at Tate Britain in 2008 was a selection of work from the four nominees: Runa Islam, Goshka Macuga, Cathy Wilkes, and Mark Leckey. Mark Leckey went on to win the coveted prize for his fusions of sculpture, film and performance referencing popular culture.
Who will win?Entrants who are shortlisted for the Turner Prize 2009 are Enrico David, Roger Hiorns, Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright. The winner will be officially announced at Tate Britain on Monday 7th December 2009, during a live television broadcast shown on Channel 4.
The Turner Prize at Tate Britain exhibition runs from Tuesday 6th October – Monday 17th January 2009. The winner of the Turner Prize 2009 will be announced on Monday 7th December 2009.The Turner Prize at Tate Britain is free for Tate members, patrons and individual children under 12 years old when accompanied by an adult. Ticket prices for non members are yet to be announced.
