Turner Prize at Tate Britain

The Turner Prize retrospective at Tate Britain sees a whole host of controversial art lined up for public criticism this year, instead of the four contestants for the Turner Prize. As the annual art prize is on tour at the Tate Liverpool this year, Londoners can take the time to catch up on their art history with a special Turner Prize retrospective.

A definitive exhibition, the show features works from all the winners of the Turner Prize since the award came into being in 1984. From the most famous of winners, like Damien Hirst, to the less controversial, like Grayson Perry, the specially curated Turner exhibition gives you a chance to revisit the prize winning pieces of art from the last 24 years.

Alongside the key works of art, the Turner Prize retrospective explores the history of the prize itself and looks back at the changing nature of the artists and the works that are submitted and win the famous title. Some artists have more of their key works on display, meaning you can see more than just the winning pieces from Malcolm Morley, Richard Deacon, Rachel Whiteread, Douglas Gordon and Tomma Abts.

The Turner Prize has been a major player in the artworld since its inception in the eighties. Started as a prize that would bring the public's attention to modern art, Turner Prize winners have often caused consternation amongst traditional art lovers. Renowned for being crammed full of artist enfant terribles and controversial creative types, the Turner Prize retrospective shows the significant role that the prize has played in the growth of modern art.

90 Shortlisted artists also feature in the exhibition, making the retrospective a full examination of the artists that have been involed in the Turner Prize over the years. With major works such as Gidlbert and George's Drunk with God, Simon Starling's Shedboatshed and the infamous Mother and Child Divided by Damien Hirst, visitors to the gallery can be sure that they will see the full spectrum of prize winners and their work.

The 2007 Turner Prize is hosted at the Tate Liverpool Gallery from 19th October until the 13th January.
