Compare the work of two of the most important and influential artists of the modern era at the Turner Rothko exhibition at Tate Britain. For the first time, visitors to the famous London gallery will be able to move directly between works from the two painters, and compare and contrast their different methods and influences.

Turner Rothko exhibition at Tate Britain
Following the major exhibtion of Rothko's work at the Tate Modern, which finished in February of this year, the Turner Rothko exhibtion at Tate Britain is another treat for art lovers and fans of the 20th century artist. The show will feature six works from Rothko's fasmous Seagram series, as well as other works by the famous and influential painter.

Turner's influence
Mark Rothko's respect for and feelings of creative kinship with Joseph Mallord William Turner are well documented. After visiting an exhibition of Turner's paintings at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1966, Rothko commented on the striking similarities between his own and the nineteenth century artist's work. Now you can judge for yourself, as the Turner Rothko exhibition at Tate Britain has recreated the show that Rothko attended back in the 1960s.

Turner seascapes
Highlights from the Turner Rothko show, which is held in the Clore Galleries at Tate Brain, include Turner seascapes such as the 1822 piece A Pink Sky above a Grey Sea, pictured. Art lovers will be be able to see for themselves the obvious similarities between these experimental watercolour works by Turner, and Rothko's Seagram murals that were originally designed for the Four Season's restaurant in Manhattan.

The Turner Rothko exhibition at Tate Britain runs from Monday 23rd March - Sunday 26th July 2009. The Tate is open from 10am - 5.50pm daily. Admission is free.
