It’s a blast from the past as the first major exhibition on Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun heads to London for nearly 35 years. Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of Pharaohs is already attracting millions of visitors on its tour of the US and it’s set to head for the capital. If the last Tutankhamun London exhibition during the 1970s is anything to go by, visitors will be queuing for ages to get a glimpse of the life of the famous pharaoh.
King Tut in LondonThe last time Tutankhamun visited London was almost 35 years ago, when the British Museum held the Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibition. The exhibition boasted the museum’s largest attendance ever for a travelling exhibition with over 1.7 million people visiting the show.
Brand new exhibitionCurrently scheduled to be held at the O2 Dome in November 2007, the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition aims to explore the life of the famous king, as opposed to the discovery of his tomb. See what life was like for Tutankhamun, who was made Pharaoh as a child and died when he was still a teenager.
Artefacts on displayThe new Tutankhamun London exhibition is set to showcase 130 objects dedicated to the pharaoh, other tombs from the Valley of the Kings and other Egyptian artefacts. The US shows have featured recent CT scans for forensic that were performed on his mummified body to determine his cause of death, plus a bust of Tutankhamun that lets visitors see the best guess of what he looked like when he ruled Egypt.
Tutankhamun on tourAfter passing through US cities including Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and Chicago, the exhibition is set to head to Philadelphia before making its way to London in November. Since the last Tutankhamun London exhibition broke such records, it’s guaranteed to attract loads of visitors when it comes to the O2 Dome.
