Head to the E4 Udderbelly Festival London for a bizarre and unique experience at the Southbank Centre. Taking place within a huge overturned purple cow, the twelve week festival includes comedy, live music, theatre, bingo and much, much more.
Udderbelly Festival London
A huge upside down purple cow might be a slightly strange place to hold an arts, comedy and music festival, but it looks like it's going to be one of the best places to see live performances during spring and summer 2012. The Udderbelly Festival London events follow successful Udderbelly stints at the Brighton and Edinburgh festivals, and there's an eclectic programme to tempt fans of live performance into the Southbank Centre.
Comedy
Comic acts feature heavily on the Udderbelly Festival London programme, with both world famous and underground talent vying for your laughs. Established acts from the London comedy circuit such as Tim Minchin, Pete Firman and Carl Donnelly are taking to the stage, alongside Comedy Store regulars and television stars such as Rufus Hound, Arthur Smith, Richard Herring, Sean Hughes and Gina Yashere.

Live music
Other highlights of this year's E4 Udderbelly Festival include The Vocal Orchestra, an hour of outstanding musical entertainment created by beatboxing sensation and World Loop-Station champion Shlomo. Featuring seven human voices in the place of conventional orchestral instruments, the concert showcases the talents of some of the world's most exciting beatboxers. The eclectic mix of live music performances also includes Alternative Eurovision, which sees a series of camp and flamboyant acts give their own personal reinterpretation of classic Eurovision moments.
Fringe events
Meanwhile, other events taking place as part of the festival include the ad hoc Showstopper!, in which a talented cast of musicians create a brand new, improvised musical on the spot. Other alternative kicks to be had at the Southbank Centre during the festival include the Frisky and Mannish cabaret show, as well as stand up and ventriloquism with Nina Conti and her and foul-mouthed puppets.
Events for kids
There's plenty of events for young children and families at Udderbelly, with one highlight being a stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson's Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales, a theatre experience perfect for kids over the age of three. There's also the interactive Claytime show, where kids over the age of three are invited to let their imaginations run wild with clay. Other highlights for families include the return of the popular Comedy 4 Kids.
