The exhibition Under Attack at London Transport Museum marks the 70th anniversary of the Blitz, not just in London, but in Coventry and Dresden too. All three cities were severely bombed during that period and this LTM exhibition looks at the devastating effects on the cities and the ways in which transport works attempted to keep everyone moving.

Under Attack at London Transport Museum
Aerial bombing raids were a part of daily life for British people in both London and Coventry during the war, and these became known as the Blitz. Looking at the ways in which public transport attempted to keep a sense of normality throughout all the bombing and boosting public morale, the exhibition explores the shared experiences of everyone who was affected, both in Britain and abroad.

British Blitz
A major part of Under Attack at London Transport Museum focuses on the ways in which each city prepared for the Blitz, with public transport in both London and Coventry being used to evacuate children and the infirm to more remote locations. As well as using first hand experiences from those who lived through the Blitz, the exhibition also uses a series of unique displays to show how London and Coventry differed in their approach to their transport systems during the war.

Dresden bombing
Unlike many Second World War exhibitions that focus entirely on the British perspective, Under Attack at London Transport Museum has been organised in conjunction not only with the Coventry Transport Museum, but also the Verkehrsmuseum in Dresden. 2010 marks the 70th anniversary of the Blitz in Britain and also the 65th anniversary of the devastating attack on Dresden by the Allied Forces. Unlike London and Coventry, Dresden was actually seen as a safe haven for the German people and transport was used to bring refugees into the city for shelter.

Under Attack at London Transport Museum takes place from 10am - 6pm, Tuesday 7th September 2010 - Thursday 31st March 2011. Tickets are £10.00, and concessions are £8.00 and £6.00. Children under 16 are free.
