Old Truman Brewery
The Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch is home to London’s first Urban Beach, bringing a slice the Caribbean to East London this summer. With sand, palm trees and a stock of deck chairs the Old Truman Brewery has been transformed into a complete beach haven. Sunglasses at the ready…
Sun, sand and ShoreditchThere’s nothing quite like the feel of sand between your toes and you don’t have to book a holiday to get that experience this year. The urban beach features genuine Caribbean sand flown in from Jamaica, spread over a 437 square-yard area at the Old Truman Brewery car park. Palm trees and deck chairs complete the experience, but bring your own bucket and spade.
A beach revolution in LondonThe beach is the brainchild of two local Shoreditch residents inspired by inner-city beaches in other major European cities. After receiving planning permission and getting Red Stripe on board for sponsorship the Shoreditch beach is now open, already attracting thousands of Londoners.
East London holidaymakingThere might not be any sea but the Old Truman Brewery beach offers a unique holiday experience in East London. Visitors can expect chilled out fun in the sun, with an on site cafe for refreshments. The attached Vibe Bar is also open for a drink or two before hitting the beach again.
Summer 2007 at the Urban Beach LondonA series of events are being planned up for the summer, including volleyball tournaments and film screenings. The beach will be a hub of activity in Shoreditch and the only place in London to lounge in true Caribbean style. Details of upcoming events are yet to be confirmed.
The Urban Beach can be found at the Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch. Entry to the beach is free.
