V&A Summer Camp

The V&A Summer Camp takes over the Friday Late session for July, August and September 2011 with a four day festival of arts, crafts, fun and music. With live entertainment, creative workshops and late bars, there is everything you could want from a summer camp experience on location at the V&A Museum.

V&A Summer Camp
Taking over from the hugely successful V&A Village Fete, the Summer Camp sets out to capture the spirit of its previous incarnation whilst celebrating self reliance, resourcefulness and the desire to share skills. Perfect for those that are keen to learn new hobbies or take up a new craft, this is also the ideal place to swap ideas and get friendly with a whole host of design and arts inspired people.

Idea
Kicking off with the Idea special on Friday 29th July, the V&A Summer Camp hosts a series of different workshops and creative experiences. Enjoy a cup of tea made from water boiled from kitchen waste compost or take part in a debate on the future of public architecture. On all three Friday evenings, Bombay Sapphire will be serving creative cocktails from bars located around the museum, as well as at their pop up Imagination Bar in the John Madejski Garden.

Design
After the Idea special, the next V&A Summer Camp concentrates on Design with a weekend of special events from 26th August - 27th August. Join guerrilla gardener Vanessa Harden and make seed pill capsules, or head to the family special on Saturday to play musical chairs with an unusual twist.

Make
The final event in the summer camp series takes place on 30th September, and celebrates the V&A and Craft Council exhibition Power of Making. Activities on the night celebrate the emerging new technologies that broaden design possibilities.

Talks and tours
And as if that wasn't quite enough entertainment for you, there is also the chance to see the latest exhibitions on show at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and hear from prominent artists, writer and makers who will be giving inspiring talks throughout the V&A Summer Camp schedule.

The next V&A Summer Camp takes place from Friday 26th - Saturday 27th August 2011 at the Victoria and Albert Museum and John Madejski Gardens. Entrance is free, but some events require pre-booking and tickets.
