Fans of avant garde art will enjoy the exhibition by Van Doesburg at Tate Modern during 2010 as one of the most significant European artists of his time goes on show in London. Showing in the UK for the very first time, this exhibition is set to attract plenty of attention from modern art fans.

Van Doesburg at Tate Modern
Van Doesburg founded the De Stijl movement of painters, architects and designers, and was responsible for promoting his international style of geometric art across Europe in the early days after World War I. Creating pieces within strict geometric guidlines, the work on show in the Van Doesburg avant garde exhibition can be seen as the founding roots of movements like Dada and Modernism, and Dutch Neoplasticism.

Art, design and text
Over 350 works by the artist are on show in Van Doesburg at Tate Modern, including many pieces that have never been seen in the UK before. Along with exhibits of typography, magazines, film, music and sculpture, visitors can also see his stained glass works and his rarely seen counter-composition paintings, which are formed by creating a diagonal tension between the painting and the canvas itself.

Exhibition highlights
Many other artists work also features alongside that of Van Doesburg at Tate Modern, with pieces by Constantin Brancusi, Piet Mondrian, Franics Picabia, Kurt Schwitters and Sophie Taeuber on show. Fans of the avant garde style will be keen to see Van Doesburg designs for the Cafe Aubette in Strasbourg and Gerrit Rietveld's iconic Red-Blue chair.

Van Doesburg at Tate Modern, the International Avant Garde exhibition, takes place from Thursday 4th February - Sunday 16th May 2010. Tickets are £10.00 or £8.50 for concessions.
