An exhibition about Van Gogh at Royal Academy of Arts gives you a fantastic opportunity to see the work of the Real Van Gogh. Bringing together some of his most famous pieces alongside a collection of personal letters, The Artist and His Letters exhibition at Royal Academy will no doubt be one of the biggest hits of 2010.

Van Gogh exhibition
Focusing on the more personal side of his life as seen through his correspondence, the exhibition on Van Gogh at Royal Academy is a unqiue opportunity to explore the artist's work. Bringing together a collection of letters that are rarely on show due to their extremely fragile nature along with his paintings and drawings, The Real Van Gogh is certain to be a stunning exhibition of work.

The real Van Gogh
Personal correspondence from Vincent Van Gogh to his brother and his fellow artists make up the bulk of the delicate letters, and they shed light on how Van Gogh's works were progressing at the time of writing and his views on his work in general. Shown alongside the paintings which mention them, this exhibition of Van Gogh at Royal Academy takes a delightfully personal approach, allowing viewers to feel as though they are on the recieving end of his letters.

Tortured genius or hardworking artist?
Renowned for his unsteady temperament and his despressive attitude, Van Gogh has often been painted as an erratic character, whose profound high and low emotional states affected not only his work but his personal life also. This exhibition seeks to portray the real Van Gogh and through the exhibits portrays a sensitive and hardworking man, but also someone with a great intelligence. Communicating with friends and family, he conveys his ideas about art, nature, literature and his own feelings too.

Royal Academy highlights
The exhibition of Van Gogh at Royal Academy features many of his well known works which art fans across the globe are familiar with. Although the multi million pound selling Sunflowers hangs in the National Gallery, Londoners have rarely had the opportunity to see some other well loved pieces. Entrance to the Public Park in Arles has come all the way from America to feature in the RA show, and two pieces, Self Portrait as an Artist and Still Life: Drawing Board with Onions have both been flown over from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam for the event.

The exhibition of Van Gogh at Royal Academy, The Real Van Gogh, takes place from 10am to 5.30pm, from Saturday 23rd January - Sunday 18th April 2010. Late night openings take place on Friday until 10pm.

Standard adult tickets cost £12.00; concessions are available. Tickets for those on income support and for children aged 12 - 18 cost £4.00, children aged 8 - 11 cost £3.00, while kids under 7 go free.
