The Line-Up
Vauxhall Skate at Village Underground isn’t all about the rollerskating, so if you fear spending more time on your derriere than your feet then don’t worry – it’s entirely optional. Instead, you can sit back and enjoy the music courtesy of Sophie Ellis Bextor, Remi Nicole, Alfie Allen, Queens of Noize with the help special guest Florence (of Florence and the Machine fame) and Carl Barat. Meanwhile, Jonny Woo will be hosting car-aoke, complete with dress-up props to make the karaoke all the more embarrassing, and celebrity stylist Lyndell Mansfield will be providing free hairstyles at her pit-stop salon. Of course, for those of you who love roller skating, it’s been described as ‘70s disco meets Knight Rider on roller skates. Whatever that means, it sounds fun.
What to Expect
As well as an incredible line-up, your free ticket to Vauxhall Skate at Village Underground includes specially designed Vauxhall Corsa roller boots, a rotating mirror ball car, free hot dogs and cupcakes and car-themed art commissioned by respected illustrator Kate Moross. Even if you’re not a fan of Top Gear, the car theme will probably appeal.
Village Underground
Village Underground defines itself as a platform for creativity and culture. It’s basically a huge Victorian warehouse comprising a main atrium within a pair of brick arches. This events space is used for private parties often with a high profile twist, such as the MTV Hugo Boss party, catwalk fashion shows, the Bar and Restaurant Awards, and art show Scrawl Collective. It’s the ideal spot for a party like Vauxhall Skate at Village Underground as it’s edgy, cool and so Shoreditch it hurts. Where else would you hold London’s ultimate roller disco?
Getting Tickets
This party is free to all – but an event like this is sure to attract the hordes and there are only so many roller boots to go around. So what’s an event to do? The free tickets are being allocated on a lottery basis – and you have to be in it to win it. All you have to do is RSVP to vauxhallskate@gm.com with your name for a chance to win a pair of tickets. This is the only way to get on the guest list. Lucky attendees will be chosen at random and notified by email on 27th July 2009. That gives you two whole days to decide what to wear to the event.
Vauxhall Skate at Village Underground runs from 8pm-late on Wednesday 29th July. Entry is free all night.
