Veterans Day London

Celebrating the contributions of army and navy veterans all across the city, the inaugural Veterans Day London event will be held at Trafalgar Square on 27th June 2008. Set to take place yearly from 2008 onwards, the very first Veterans Day London gathering will mark the start of a very special annual event.

Celebrating the courage and the bravery that has been displayed by Britain's veterans, the Veterans Day in London will encourage people to pay tribute to these men and women, and highlight their actions in wartime. Honouring the sacrafices that the soldiers, sailors and airforce people have made over the course of their military careers, the day will make much of their efforts and remind London of how much is owed because of their bravery.

A special Veterans Day badge ceremony will be held by the Ministry of Defence in honour of those who have fought for their country, and a you can also see a one off exhibition about the Afghan war, which looks at the nature of being a soldier in 2008 versus the life of a military man in 1879. Helmand: The Soldiers Story compares army life between the two geographically similiar wars that were fought under very different circumstances.

For those that love a bit of military colour and discipline, the Veterans Day London event will also include a programme of live entertainment from the Grenadier Guards, who are the most senior regiment of the Guards Division in the British Army.

The Veterans Day London event takes place on Friday 27th June 2008 from 11am to 5pm and is free to enter. The Mayor of London will be in attendance from 2pm to 3pm on the day.
