The Warner Village West End is one of two multi-plex cinemas in the West End - the other being the UGC Trocadero. Of the two, the Warner Village has the
edge, due to its better standards in seating and general upkeep.
There are
nine screens in all, six of which are of a decent size and seat over 200
people. Sight-lines (how easy it is to see the screen if someone is directly
in front of you) are good in each screen and the seating is comfortable,
providing both ample leg-room and decent head support. The sound quality in
each screen is also excellent.
The Warner West End has the usual concession stands as well as a separate
ice-cream kiosk. There are also television screens dotted about that play
continuous trailers.
On the second floor it has the very distinctive "Red
Bar" which is either unbelievably tacky and gaudy or the height of ‘cinema
chic’, depending on how much you like the colour red. It’s certainly the
reddest bar in Central London after Pop, Soho Street anyway – it’s also open till 11pm most
nights.
Where the Warner West End loses points is on two crucial counts.
Firstly,
they have no ‘bargain’ discount days, unlike many other West End cinemas -
the lowest available discount is £7, which is hardly cheap.
Secondly, and
somebody had to say it, cinema prices are just Too Damn Expensive. £10 per
film means that London is officially the most expensive cinema-going capital
in Europe – the screens are good, but certainly not worth £10, and if you
end up seeing a bad film here, you REALLY feel cheated.
