A stunning War Horse exhibition London event takes place from now until August 2012 as the book by Michael Morpurgo is celebrated, along with the theatrical and film adaptations, as well as the stories of many real life war horses too. For anyone with a passion for military history or how the horse and other animals have been used in conflicts, this is certain to be a must see show.
War Horse exhibition
London is home to many history fans and animals lovers and now the two can come together over this fully interactive exhibition at the National Army Museum. With exclusive content from both the War Horse stage show and the Steven Spielberg film, fans of the Morpurgo novel will be delighted to see the touching story of Joey the War Horse brought to life in various different ways.
Frontline equines
Despite many technological advances having been made in military combat by the rise of the First World War, horses were still regularly used for pulling machinery, carrying equipment over difficult terrain, messenger services and also for traditional cavalry use. Many of the horses used during the war did not come from a military background, and alongside thousands of men who were conscripted, thousands of horses were also commandered by the army from farms, private stables and familes for use at the front. The history and use of these animals forms the heart of the War Horse exhibition London show, alongside the story by Michael Morpurgo which was inspired by those unfortunate animals.
Exhibition highlights
Sure to be some of the most popular attractions on show in the War Horse exhibition London event are some pieces of art, created especially for the show and for the War Horse film. A life-szed sculpture of a horse, made from fencing wire, was commissioned by the National Army Museum for the exhibition by Laura Anebi, who was inspired by the barbed wire horses used as decoys during WWI. More art comes courtesy of the official Equine Artistic Advisor, or artist Ali Bannister, who created several sketches of horses that were used in the filming of Steven Spielberg's adaptation of the War Horse novel.
Events
To accompany the exhibition a series of War Horse themed events and activities are taking place at the museum, giving visitors the chance to get even more hands on with the themes of the show and learn more about the role that horses still play in the military. Over half term kids can meet various horse soldiers from throughout history, chat with Michael Morpurgo, or take part in a War Horse puppetry workshop.
