Get ready for the Wizard of Oz at the Waterloo Carnival 2008 as witches, wizards and munchkins take over the Lower Marsh for a day of fun for kids and family.

The 5th annual Waterloo Carnival is set to be the biggest celebration yet. Taking place on Friday 11th July 2008, Lower Marsh Waterloo will be turning into the Yellow Brick Road for this year’s Wizard of Oz theme.

Witches and Munchkins will join together in harmony for one day for the Waterloo Carnival 2008 festivities, which include the renowned street procession and live music. A Witches Tea Party and a themed street market will entertain the kids and in the evening a music and cabaret stage in The Emerald City will feature live performances from a variety of professional artists and local community groups.

From 12pm onwards a special Munchkinland will be set up at the eastern end of Lower Marsh with a music stage and interactive Wizard of Oz themed market stalls and street performers. Kids and family will be delighted with the Mini munchkin museums as Imperial War Museum, the Museum of Garden History and the Florence Nightingale Museum, are all recreated.

The Carnival Procession kicks off at around 1.30pm with over 300 performers, travelling along the length of Lower Marsh, down Westminster Bridge Road and Baylis Road, finishing on Millennium Green. This is your chance to see all the colourful characters from the Wizard of Oz as they make their way down to the Waterloo Carnival.

Kids will have a brilliant time at the Waterloo Carnival 2008 as a Witches and Munchkins Family Friendly Zone takes place on Millennium Green, with a mini Munchkins play area, a Witches Tea Party, kids disco, live Latin band and school performances all from 1pm onwards. And for the adults, the Emerald City at the western end of Lower Marsh, is the location for the If I Only Had a Brain pub quiz, and a music and cabaret stage that will be hosted by Timberlina starring as The Emerald Queen. Performances come from professional artists and local community groups, and several bars in the area will be opening later to carry on the carnival festivities into the evening.

Waterloo Carnival 2008 takes place from 12pm to 10pm on Friday 11th July 2008 on and around Lower Marsh.
