A brand new Andy Warhol exhibition is on show at the Hayward Gallery this winter, entitled Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms. Looking at the works of this major 20th century artist from a new and fresh perspective, the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Southbank Centre is sure to be a big draw to fans of his art.
Fifteen minutes of fame
Having captured the idols of the 50s and 60s on his colourful, pop art canvases, Andy Warhol became synonymous with the fleeting nature of fame and the destructive nature of celebrity. He was one of the most influential artists fo the latter half of the 20th century, and still remains one of the most copied artists ever, with tributes and rip offs of his works on gallery and living room walls all over the country. Those who attend the Andy Warhol exhibition, will no doubt find that they get a distinct feeling of deja vue, even if they have never see any of these pieces before, simply due to his enormous influence on popular culture.
Artistic influences
Anyone familiar with Banksy will recognise the Kate Moss series of sillk screen prints that echo the Marilyn Monroe series of paintings Warhol created of the famous actress. Not just a influence on the visual art world, Andy Warhol was a major player in London and New York during the 70s and 80s with musicians, filmmakers and artists, and consequently his art found its way into many unusual and unexpected mediums. From David Bowie to Elizabeth Taylor, Warhol was responsible for capturing the likenesses of huge amounts of other famous artists, actors, and socialites.
Andy Warhol: Other Voices Other Rooms
Presenting films, screen test, videos and television programmes, along with the more famous paintings and installations, the Andy Warhol exhibition at Hayward Gallery brings to light the amazing creative processes of this 20th century Da Vinci and combines rare archive material to capture the unusual spirit with which Warhol worked. Organised in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Museum in America, the exhibition is certain to bring some stunning pieces of his work to London, and will most likely be one of the biggest shows in London over the winter.
Andy Warhol: Otehr Voices, Other Rooms, the Andy Warhol exhibition at Hayward Gallery is on show 10am - 6pm, late night Fridays until 10pm, from Tuesday 7th October 2008 - Sunday 18th January 2009. Tickets are £10.00.
