The Where Three Dreams Cross exhibition brings together images from modern India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to illustrate how the countries have been shaped by their histories on camera.
Where Three Dreams Cross
A landmark exhibition, the Where Three Dreams Cross exhibition encompasses 150 years of photos from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. From the early days when photographic studios where newly established in the 1850s, right up to the present day, stunning images of the three intertwined nations have been captured on camera and represent the social, political and everyday life of its citizens.
Professionals and amateurs
Both professional photographers and amateur snappers are represented in the Where
Three Dreams Cross exhibition, capturing key moments across the Indian
subcontinent's history. Political moments in the 40s, photos from everyday life in the
60s and street portraits from the 70s combine with digital images from contemporary
India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Photos on show
Arranged in five different themes, visitors to the Where Three Dreams Cross exhibition invites you to explore the history of these photos in five different ways. Portrait illustrates the development of the self over the past 150 years, while the Family section looks at close familial relationships with early hand painted photos and current portraits. Key political moments are examined in Body Politic, Performance looks at the golden age of Bollywood, and the Street concentrates on how the three countries have coped with social development and life on the street.
Historical, personal and unseen
Many of the images on show in the photo exhibition were taken by professional photographers attempting to capture the spirit of three different countries, but the Where Three Dreams Cross also contains many historic images that come from private collections, that have never before been seen in public. Lent by private owners or from family archives, this is a rare opportunity to see such a collection of photos all together in one stunning show.
The Where Three Dreams Cross exhibition takes place from 11am - 6pm, late night 9pm on Thursdays, Thursday 21st January - Sunday 11th April 2010.
