Winter Wanders Walking Weekend

Winter Wanders Walking Weekend

When

Saturday 29th January - Sunday 30th January 2011

Where

Routes across London

Organised by Walk London, the Winter Wanders walking weekend offers over 30 free walks along seven of London's most popular walking routes.

City walks
Perfect if your new year's resolution is to shed the pounds gained from a few too many mince pies over Christmas, the Winter Wanders walking weekend aims to encourage Londoners of all ages and abilities to get outdoors and embrace a healthier lifestyle. Both the start and end points of each walk is located close to public transport, so you can go green and meet fellow walkers along the way at the event.

Walking routes
The 30 guided walks on the Winter Wanders walking weekend take place along seven key walking routes in London. There are trails along the London LOOP, Capital Ring, Jubilee Walkway, Jubilee Greenway, Thames Path, Lee Valley Walk and the South East Green Chain, so there's bound to be a walk close to you that you can join.

Ditch the gym
One of the greenest and cheapest ways to stay fit and healthy, walking requires very little specialist training or equipment. The Winter Wanders walking weekend follows previously popular and free seasonal walking events in May and September, and to get everyone excited about the approaching London 2012 Olympic Games, there are also a number of Walking Towards the Games walks that lead towards the Olympic site.

Walking highlights
Last year, some of the many special walks organised by Walk London for the weekend included the Hackney Waltham Forest walk from Stoke Newington to Hackney Wick, and the City of London Tower Hamlets trail from Tower Hill to Mile End, via Victoria Park. There were also free guided walks around Camden, Kingston, Petts Wood and Woolwich. Click back soon for further information on the 2011 walks.

Mini walks
For young ramblers or for those just starting out on their new health and fitness regime, there are also a number of walks that are under 5 miles long. Families and walkers of all ages can walk from Angel to Hackney Wick, from Richmond to Twickenham, or from Pimlico to Westminster.

The Winter Wanders walking weekend takes place from Saturday 29th January - Sunday 30th January 2010. The guided walks are free to attend. For more information and for the full list of walks, click on the link below.
